Aliya and Toshav Chozer
OK, after a little over 8 years in the US I decided it was time to head back home. Of course, I knew about the shock and difficulties. After all, I visited quite a few times during my exile. I also completed my doctorate in clinical psychology, so I was prepared... or so I thought. I completely ignored the humorous warnings by my close relatives, who moved back from my American home base near Boston a few years ago. Humor aside, there was no doubt that they regretted the move on many levels (education was a major one). It's been two months. I am not there yet - still hoping; still working on a few "projects" so I can earn a living in dignity; still convinced that this is the right place. Interestingly, another cousin just made Aliya from France last Tuesday and was placed in Beer-Sheva. He's as happy as can be. It gave me a boost of confidence that this tragic decision/life that we "do" here has a greater meaning and that, ultimately, life is more "real" here. After all, what do we really need from this world?
